I loved the cliffhanger they did for both timelines. Tell me lies was perfectly executed in the storyline, the back and forth with past/future, the little details, the drama, the backstabbing, deceiving and everything else. It gives you little glimpses to give you an idea of why certain people are the way they are. I like how they hid most of the character's backstories for a majority of the season, making you want to keep watching to find out more. The twist and turns keep you wanting more, and there are lots of steamy scenes. Hopefully we get to see some sort of character development involving some character's toxicity. I think the characters and all pretty relatable one way or another, and not all are horrible people, but Stephen is definitely the worst. It's showing how easily it can be to get swept into it due to lying and backstabbing etc.
So I definitely don't agree with people saying it's "normalizing" these toxic behaviors. I think it's a great show for parents and teens to watch together so after each episode they can talk about those behaviors and choices and discuss what the right thing might have been to do. I think when young people are watching from an outside perspective, it'll maybe show them the things they might not see, or want to see, in their own relationships, and also show them what NOT to do. This series is showcasing the very real behaviors of younger people and how they'll blatantly ignore the obvious red flags, and how lying and deceiving doesn't get you anywhere but into a hole you can't dig yourself out of.
I keep seeing people say it's not a great show for teenagers bc it "normalizes" toxic behaviors but I think those people are missing the point. Just goes to show how people lie, twist the truth, and play mind games.
